As residents enjoyed fireworks, food and rides in downtown Lancaster during the Fourth of July festival, more than 50 LVAC members took part in the corps’ annual EMS standby to ensure public safety.
LVAC’s EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, drivers, Explorers and bike team responded to medical emergencies at the two-day festival while handling calls in the rest of their district as well. The bike team, for example, responded quickly to numerous calls for minor eye injuries following the fireworks display.
Patients were also evaluated for symptoms such as high blood pressure, heat exhaustion, hand injuries and fainting, among others.
In addition, LVAC members marched in the parade, provided EMS standby during a 10k race and manned a public relations tent, which organized a scavenger hunt for kids. Multiple ambulances were on location at all times.
LVAC’s operations department organized the standby.
“We handled calls on the outside, we took care of the event and we were complimented by numerous people,” said LVAC assistant director of operations Larry Pohl, who led LVAC’s command of the detail. Pohl commended members for their assistance at the festival, which is Lancaster’s largest public event.
Officials from the Lancaster Fire Department also expressed their appreciation to LVAC for its coverage at the event.
LVAC wishes to thank Performance Advantage Company for allowing LVAC to use PAC’s building as its base and Broadway Driving Range for lending a golf cart.
